In 2023, as an alumnus of Suzhou University of Science and Technology, served as project lead for “Digital-School Think Tank — Digital Transformation Solution Provider for Industrial Enterprises” and participated in the China International College Students Innovation Competition (Main Track), receiving a National Gold Award. The entire engagement centered on the capability gap issue in the digital transformation of small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises.

Abstract

Digital transformation at the level of small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises has long faced a deficit in capability generation mechanisms. Existing service models generally presuppose that enterprises possess sustained operational capabilities, data governance capabilities, or dedicated budgetary capacity. These very capabilities constitute the structural deficiencies of SMEs. The construction of capability infrastructure must be decoupled from reliance on pre-existing organizational capabilities.

Capability infrastructure is not a generic IT platform. It is a lightweight capability foundation oriented toward specific process scenarios. It must be embeddable within existing organizational workflows. It must support clients in completing local deployment, iteration, and permission management. The delivery outcome of capability infrastructure manifests as endogenous transformation of organizational capabilities. What the client acquires are ownable, operable, and iterable technical assets — assets that do not depend on continuous intervention by specific exclusive external entities, do not rely on ongoing cloud service subscriptions beyond computational resources, and do not require long-term vendor remote debugging support. All deployments comply with the Cybersecurity Review Measures and the industrial internet security standard system.

Only when digital capability is restored from an external commodity to an endogenous organizational attribute do small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises truly attain agency in digital transformation. This agency manifests as localized control over data sovereignty, autonomous calibration of decision logic, and manageable pacing of technological evolution.
